Samantha has always been a fairly common name, and while growing up through school I have always had another Samantha in one or more of my classes. At one point in time there were three of us. This resulted in me being called by my last name, Wallace not so common, but not as pretty. Guilty of my different nicknames I was often called Sam, Sammy, and a special thanks to my grandma for Sam-Bo (lovely).
However I have never disliked my many nicknames really, well maybe Sam-Bo it’s a bit goofy, but I can stomach the others. I find my nickname amusing at times, because when I hang out with new friends, and their boyfriends’ call to say hello it is always the same funny response. These boyfriends sometimes aren’t filled in that I am a woman and they ask, “Whose Sam? Why are you spending your time with another guy besides me?” It is absolutely silly, but I am glad I never became Derek, because for the longest time my parents thought I was going to be a boy.
As I mature though I tend to lean more towards Samantha, because I like my name to sound more feminine instead of the masculine opposite Sam. Even so my attempts become useless .Sam seems to linger around a stick to me like glue. All in all I don’t believe I could ever change my name, because I can’t think of another name that fits me as well , so as far as I know Samantha is keeper.
