Lars and the Real Girl Timed Write

The day Bianca arrives the excitement in Lars's demeanor shines through, as this is his unconscious approach to becoming an insider. Bianca is real to him and he expresses this excitement to his brother and sister in law. While introducing Bianca to his siblings they express shock and amazement. His siblings consult a doctor and are encouraged to play along. However to their surprise Bianca brings Lars out of his shell and they notice he no longer hides in his home anymore, or avoid social gatherings. One social gathering in particular shows Lars’s improvement as an outsider. Lars is invited to a co workers birthday party in which at first he declines. However when he gives it more thought he convinces himself to go as long as Bianca is able to come with him. At this party Lars interacts with many of his co workers and their friends and even goes so far as to dance in the crowd. Bianca is Lars's guidance to inside life.

Bianca hypothetically encourages Lars to bring her into the community around him. Once the community realizes that Bianca is helping Lars break out of his silence, they accept Bianca and involve her in the community cause Lars to come into his own as well. In the film Bianca becomes an important figure on the school board, a model in a local town clothing store, and a volunteer at the hospital. One scene in particular shows Bianca reading to a group of young children. This makes her a symbolic figure for Lars to come in to the world and be a part of it. Bianca does things that Lars never has. For him Bianca makes herself part of the community and participates in meetings, and she is socially involved in everything around her. Lars has her do these things, because they are things he wants to do. Through Bianca he is not afraid to be who he is.

As Lars progresses in his recovery to becoming an insider he slowing starts killing off Bianca in what he blames on a life threatening illness. Unconsciously he is killing Bianca because he has used her to become a part of society again and now that he is healing he no longer needs her to be a part of the inside life.
